ON – OFF
Once the light switch of life turns on; once that
circuit with God is connected for the believer and the un-believer alike; there’s no switching
it off. Life happens to each and every
one of us; and that’s not the kicker. The kick in the head is that you still have
to believe while life is beating the
crap out of us whether the lights are on
or off. Life is God and he neither sleeps nor slumbers; He out-lives us going forward or backwards, past or
future. He is the Ancient of Days, Alpha and Omega, and he is Eternal – there is no escaping who He is.
If we cut
the circuit of power to any electrical outlet, if the flow is interrupted, the
power cannot be transferred from one entity to another. However, God is all powerful. And when we
attempted to disconnect from the promise
of purpose, he backs-up his Word, in order that we don’t have a power
failure. He hits the reset button and
the juice continues to flow because
his Word won’t return to him void.
Some power
stays continuously On or continuously
Off.
We can either continue to believe or we can continue to live in
doubt. I have found that doubt is
choosing to allow your power to be turned off – on purpose; it’s not that the main power plant is down; you just
choose to not pay your utility bill. As
long as we have God, we have a continuous power source that we can rely upon –
Jesus is the conduit – He makes God’s power for
lack of a better word “containable”, and his judgment of sin not surge and
kill us.
In the book
of Nehemiah 4:17 – says that and I
paraphrase, “With one hand they worked and with the other hand they held their
weapon”. What is implied is that they
had a goal, and with that goal came challenges that included possibly being
killed by an enemy, but they kept on
working and they completed the wall.
The same
goes for us who are working in God’s
Kingdom. We have to keep working at
whatever it is that God has placed in our hearts and minds to do, but we must
also keep his Word in the other hand and be ready to ward off any enemy that
comes to seek, kill and destroy what it is that we are building. We have a sword;
it’s called the Word of God. It
would seem to reason that if God called us to do something, then we should sit
back and rest on our laurels, and of the promise and not have to do any to work
at bringing it to pass, and that is where we make our fatal mistake. One thing
about the God of the Bible, idleness is something that he despises. Idleness and rest are two different things.
God doesn't mind us resting; he does mind if we give up or give in to
idleness. Everyone has something that
they can contribute to their own
cause, successes and breakthrough(s).
Slothfulness will bring a slow turnabout to your situation. You catch God’s attention when he sees that
you are still working on what he initially (called/hired) you to do in spite of
obstacles, setback and attacks; and still trust in him to complete the project;
whether hired first or last.
